Recent data regarding new diagnosis and their perceptions are very alarming: 80% of Italians thinks that contracting Hiv is not a real risk and almost 60% thinks that Hiv only affects junkies, gay men and "promiscuous" people. Nonetheless new infections continue to grow, making Italy one of the top countries in Western Europe in terms of prevalence of people living with Hiv.
Only 35% of young people uses a condom, primarily thinking about it as a contraceptive and nothing more, despite 80% of transmissions still take place through sexual intercourse.
Not many people know that today if you live with Hiv and adhere to your therapy you are among the safest sexual partners out there. Should you decide to have a child and natural childbirth, with adequate medical care you have almost zero chance of transmitting the virus to your child. Overall, a person living with HIV today has the same life expectancy of anybody else.
We debunk myths.
There are so many misconceptions surrounding Hiv, that on hand we simplify complex medical information with illustrations and comics strips. On the other, we provide a platform for the subversive power of art to express the complexity and density of issues relating to Hiv.
Hiv today cannot be reduced to a mere medical issue. It is something that impacts not only our emotional and sexual life, but the quality of all our social relationships in incredibly complex ways. Our ambitions is to present part of this complexity through the skill and charisma of our artists and performers.
We are self produced. The White Rabbits project is entirely self financed. To support us and organise exhibitions, performances, events, interactive installations, concerts and amazing DJ sets you can just drop us a line using any of our contact details, here.
